John Vermeulen Octet

The John Vermeulen Octet has been a staple in the Columbus jazz scene for years. This hard swingin’ group is widely regarded by Columbus swing dancers as one of our favorites. They have a classic big band sound, with plenty of great charts from Duke Ellington, Jimmy Lunceford and Count Basie. John Vermeulen and the guys have been one of our regular bands at Swingin' Tuesdays since the beginning and they always keep the floor packed.

Dave Powers Band

For over 30 years Dave Powers has been a vital part of the Columbus, Ohio music scene on the keys and as a vocalist. Dave is one of our best known musicians and he wins the hearts of all who hear him perform. Add top players Phil Clark (vocals, guitar, sax, harp) and Aaron Scott (drums) of The Soul and you get a trio that can play it all with feeling! For this latenight set the Dave Powers Band will keep it solidly in the blues genre, with plenty of slow groovy tunes to ease you into the dawn.

Brooke Groberg

For the past five years, Brooke's dj travels have had her criss-crossing the continent (with the occasional 'cross-pond' expedition), sprinkling a little Canadia wherever she goes, but her heart belongs to Toronto, the place she calls home! Always ready for a new dj adventure, Brooke's done it all - from exchanges and competitions to swing clubs and late nite house parties. Be it swing standards, blues, funk or soul, Brooke loves full-bodied, ‘scrumpditiliumptious’ music, the kind that you can really sink your teeth into. She’ll play that stuff that makes your feet just have to keep dancing all night long!

John Holmstrom

John Holmstrom started DJing in 2007 while at the University of Illinois, where he had a small collection of songs he loved. Since then John has moved to Chicago and expanded his library with Ella, Louis, Fats, Duke, Basie, Slim&Slam, and anything else that make him want to swing out. He DJs locally at Fizz and Big City Swing in Chicago and he has DJed for events in Champaign, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus where he won the DJ Battle! John thinks standards are great, slow songs don't have to be blues, and novelty songs should be novel. He's not satisfied until dancers are out of breath and dripping in sweat, but just can't sit the next song out!

Erwin Amurao

Swing dancing, instructing and DJing since 1998, Erwin is a long time ambassador to the Midwest swing dance scene. Erwin (aka Big E) mixes blues-a-licious music with swing standard classics so everyone can get "Ooey Gooey" and still "Go Go Go". When Big E is dropping the tunes, just don't get mad at your @ss for not letting you sit down.

Brian Tietz

Brian has been dancing since 2006, and DJing for CWRU Swing since 2007. He’s since DJed all around the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley, including events such as SparX, Swing, IN, Rocktober, Dayton Swing Smackdown, and the All Balboa Weekend. He's also taken to the air with CWRU's radio station, WRUW- FM 91.1 Cleveland, where he's been a programmer since January 2009. Brian loves to see how much energy he can give dancers, whether it’s finding the tunes that break out jam circles or stretching a latenight into the wee hours..
